Singles Supper Club - Carving Time!

Our usual evening of a sitdown dinner took a change this past Thursday evening. I came home from volunteering at the library and found some people out on our back porch enjoying the evening weather and pizza! A couple of hours were spent out on the porch, laughing, scooping and creating our pumpkin masterpieces! My Dad even came by to see all the fun - actually he was fixing one of my outdoor lights, but we were still glad to have him around for a few minutes! Who knows what next week will hold! Can you figure out who carved each pumpkin?!

Rice Festival 08

Last weekend was our annual Rice Festival down here in Bay City. It was a perfect morning - the weather was gorgeous and the day was full of shopping and spending time with Aunt KK and Uncle Robin who flew in from Midland. The first pictures are from the parade, where Billy had the honor of driving his new Shelby! The last two pictures are of the Dress-Up Your Dog Contest, where Jordan's little sister, Camryn, won first place in the "Most Original" Category! I don't have a picture of Miley, but she was dressed up as a flower and sat in a flower pot while Camryn was dressed as a gardener. The last picture is of one of the contestants. As I said, I was a beatiful day!


As some of you know, Mom and Billy enjoy collecting things from estate sales and other venues. This is a picture of some funeral chairs they picked up at a sale - I guess they can come in handy at many different functions!

Camryn's Birthday!

My roommate's little sister had a birthday recently, and I thought her present was so precious I just had to share it with you! She had wanted a puppy for so long, and was totally surprised to receive her dog Miley for her birthday! If I ever have a dog, I want one just like her - she is so cute! I bought the little pink dress for her and she was so excited!

Surviving Hurricane Ike

I just thought I would share a few pictures with you from the time when Hurricane Ike came to visit. The first few pictures were taken when my family and I evacuated down to south Texas. I was only there for 24 hours but we enjoyed some time out at my uncle's deer lease. The remaining pictures were taken around town. It was like a ghost town around here! We were truly blessed.

A Free Haircut!

After pestering my housemate Jordan to cut my hair, she finally gave in. Call me cheap, or just wise, but I thoroughly enjoyed my free haircut last week. The next evening I even colored and highlighted her hair! Our weekly Singles Supper Club has turned more into a night of fun with random activities!

Circle of Excellence

For those who don't live in BC, I just thought I'd show you a picture of the award I was given last month. I was very surprised about the award and was even more surprised this week when I was nominated by my campus as Teacher of the Year. I am still a little shocked by that nomination and I'll let you know how it goes!

Reunions and Antiques...

Where has the time gone? A few weeks ago some of us got together for our weekly Singles Supper Club and had to say goodbye to our dear friend Susan. She had only been in the States for two weeks, and was back on her journey across the ocean. I'm thankful for the time we were able to spend with her, laughing about old memories and flipping through all the scrapbooks I have collected over the years. Although my scrapbooks aren't opened very often, it's times like these when I realize how important they are and all the wonderful stories that come from those pages. The laughter and the tears are priceless. We miss you Susan, and can't wait to see you again soon!






Antiques...
Warrenton/Roundtop/Fayetteville - three towns full of Antiques! A few weekends ago, Jordan, her mom and I all piled into the car one Friday afternoon and headed to Fayetteville for a weekend of "antiquing" - if that's even a verb! What began as a quiet morning in an old farmhouse, wakened by the sound of the rooster crowing (I'm serious - there really was a rooster that woke us up) turned into a LONG day of browsing, shopping, laughing, eating, and getting sunburned! Thankfully, my housmate Jordan is not afraid of picture taking, so that's why she is the center of most of these shots! Like I said, we had a ton of fun and were very tired after the long day.

This first shot is of Jordan and her dream gumball machine. What is so disturbing about this picture, is if you look close, you can see all the old, nasty, melted, sticky gumballs left in there for years, if not decades. That is one gumball machine that I wouldn't dare bring home!

An antique hippo...I think not!

Yum. All four of us, Jordan, Helen, mom and I all enjoyed this nice and greasy potato! It was devoured within minutes!

So this picture does have a story behind it. It could be a rather long story, but I'll try and make it short. On our journey to Fayetteville, to meet mom and Billy, I was guiding Mrs.Brown with directions that I thought were good. Needless to say, I didn't listen to mom very well when I wrote them down, and we ended up missing the turnoff to Fayetteville. The story goes on as Jordan is trying to tell us we missed this huge billboard with an arrow, and I didn't believe her, and she began doubting herself and so we continued on 71. So, then I begin wondering why it is taking us so long to get there - could Jordan really be right? There is no way she could be right - I'm always good with directions - or so I thought! Well, twenty minutes later, and twenty miles out of the way, I finally give in and realize we had gone too far. Jordan was right all along - and there it was, a huge billboard with an arrow - how could I have missed it?! Oh well - Jordan you were right...next time don't doubt yourself. Remember, I will always be right until proven wrong! I confess, I made a mistake! :)
